Indian long jumper Shaili Singh claimed a silver medal at the JBL Jump Fest, a World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze level) meeting held in Kosice, Slovakia, on Thursday. The 20-year-old athlete finished second among six competitors with a best jump of 6.43m, achieved in the fifth round. Bulgaria’s Plamena Mitkova secured the gold medal with a new meeting record of 6.70m.
In the men’s triple jump event, Eldhose Paul earned a bronze medal while Praveen Chithravel finished last among six participants. Commonwealth Games gold medalist Eldhose finished third with a jump of 16.45m, while Praveen managed a best effort of 15.87m, placing him sixth. Cuba’s Lazaro Martinez won the gold medal with a jump of 16.88m.
All three Indian athletes will participate in the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula from June 27 to 30. Their participation in this competition is crucial as they strive to qualify for the Paris Olympics. The Olympic qualification cycle is set to conclude on June 30th.
