Shardul Thakur Hospitalized, Unlikely to Bowl in Irani Cup

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur’s participation in the ongoing Irani Cup match has been thrown into uncertainty after he was hospitalized on Wednesday due to a viral infection. While he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning, it is unlikely that he will bowl in Rest of India’s first innings.

Thakur, who was experiencing a mild fever, was initially slated to bat at No. 10 on Wednesday. However, he was forced to come out to the middle earlier than expected when Mohit Avasthi struggled to hold his ground towards the end of the day’s play. Thakur went on to score a crucial 36 runs off 59 deliveries, aiding Sarfaraz Khan in achieving a historic double century.

Despite the valiant effort, Thakur’s condition deteriorated in the hot and humid conditions, leading to his hospitalization soon after stumps. Fortunately, his blood tests revealed no serious concerns, and he is expected to join the team in the dressing room towards the end of the third day’s play.

It remains to be seen if Thakur will be able to contribute to the match further, but his absence from the bowling attack will be a significant loss for Rest of India.
