Sharks veteran Dale Finucane has been forced into an immediate medical retirement due to repeated head knocks.
The 31-year-old has suffered multiple head knocks throughout his career, and doctors have advised him to retire for his long-term health.
Finucane has played 203 NRL games since making his debut in 2014. He has also represented NSW in the State of Origin and played for Australia in the 2017 World Cup.
Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta said Finucane’s retirement was a sad day for the club.
“Dale has been a great servant to the Sharks,” Mezzatesta said.
“He is a tough and courageous player who has always given his all for the team.
“We wish him all the best in his retirement and thank him for his contribution to the Sharks.”
