Shashi Tharoor Highlights Congress’s Mission to Safeguard India’s Secular and Democratic Values

Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Shashi Tharoor has asserted that the party’s fight is not for any particular party or individual, but for the preservation of India’s secular and democratic ideals. Addressing journalists after casting his vote in Thiruvananthapuram on April 26, Tharoor emphasized that the primary aim was to defeat the BJP’s polarizing and divisive agenda, which strikes at the heart of the Constitution’s secular and democratic values.

He declared that the Congress would work tirelessly to heal divisions and unite the people, restoring federal consensus and fostering a democratic and inclusive culture. Tharoor expressed confidence in the Congress’s ability to counter the BJP’s influence, highlighting the party’s strong performance in Thiruvananthapuram in the past two Lok Sabha elections, where the LDF was relegated to third place.

Tharoor also addressed rumors that he was rarely present in Thiruvananthapuram, stating that he initially considered it his area of work, but now it was his home. He emphasized that he had no other property or home anywhere, and Thiruvananthapuram was his final and permanent address.
