Shekhar Suman, the celebrated actor known for his recent OTT debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic series ‘Heeramandi’, has shared a surprising account of his experiences on the sets of the popular 90s sitcom ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel, Suman revealed that actors on the set would frequently faint due to the sweltering heat and lack of proper ventilation.
Recalling the challenging conditions, Suman described how the cast and crew would work tirelessly despite the absence of fans or air conditioners. ‘They used to take long shots of 10-20 minutes. The doors were closed from all four sides. It was the first time we were shooting with multi-cams, with many huge lights, and no fans or air conditioning. Aadmi bhun kar, tal kar, barbaad ho kar bahar nikalta tha (People would leave the room all roasted to the bone in heat and exhausted), but nobody complained,’ said Suman.
The actor vividly remembered an incident where he witnessed a co-actor fainting while giving a cue. To his astonishment, he then noticed that veteran actress Farida Jalal had also collapsed on set.
Despite the extreme conditions, Suman and his fellow actors remained committed to delivering exceptional performances. Their dedication and hard work resulted in the creation of one of India’s most beloved sitcoms, which continues to entertain audiences to this day.
Shekhar Suman’s upcoming project, ‘Heeramandi’, is a highly anticipated period drama series helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The series boasts an ensemble cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Fardeen Khan. Suman plays the role of Nawab Zulfikar, while his son, Adhyayan Suman, portrays a pivotal character named Nawab Zoravar.
