Shovel Knight Series Celebrates 10th Anniversary with New Mainline Game and Updates

Yacht Club Games Announces New Shovel Knight Mainline Game and Updates

Yacht Club Games, the developer behind the beloved Shovel Knight series, has announced a slew of updates for the franchise, including a brand-new mainline game. The announcement was made during the studio’s 10th anniversary showcase, where founder Sean Velasco teased that the new game will honor the Shovel Knight legacy while introducing innovative gameplay mechanics.

Velasco remained intentionally vague about the specific details of the new game, but hinted that it may incorporate 3D elements. He also revealed that clues to the game’s content can be found in previous Shovel Knight titles. The new game has been in development for approximately four years.

In addition to the new mainline game, Yacht Club Games also announced updates for existing Shovel Knight titles. Shovel Knight Dig and Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon will both receive their final DLC packs. Dig’s upcoming DLC, titled Wicked Wishes, introduces a well-dressed horse on a throne in a guild hall. Players must impress the horse by climbing the ranks through completing challenges and quests. Pocket Dungeon’s Paradox Pack will add more playable characters, new stages, mini-bosses, challenges, and mod support for the PC version. The final DLC for both games will bring online support, but release dates for these updates have not yet been announced.

Yacht Club Games also provided a small update on Mina: The Hollower, a top-down horror adventure game that was announced and funded on Kickstarter in 2022. The team is still working on the game, primarily polishing gameplay and writing. Mina: The Hollower is expected to release soon.

Finally, Yacht Club Games announced new merchandise collaborations and game crossovers. The company is bringing back its For Honor event with Ubisoft and returning Shovel Knight to Brawhalla. The Shovel Knight series has been a critical and commercial success, selling over 2 million copies worldwide. The franchise has been praised for its charming retro graphics, tight controls, and innovative gameplay. Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the release of the new mainline game and the updates for existing titles.
