Siddaramaiah Expresses Gratitude to SC, Centre Assures Swift Action on Drought Relief
In a significant development, the Supreme Court has intervened in the matter of Karnataka’s drought relief plea, leading to fresh assurances from the Central government.
Government’s Assurance
Attorney General R Venkataramani, representing the Centre, informed the court that the Election Commission has authorized the Union government to address the issue and a decision is expected by April 29th. The AG also emphasized that the matter will be resolved expeditiously and further arguments are unnecessary at this stage.
Karnataka’s Plea
The Karnataka government, represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, had filed a plea seeking financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) due to the severe drought conditions affecting the state. The plea argued that the Centre’s delay in releasing the funds was violating the fundamental rights of the people of Karnataka under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah praised the Supreme Court’s intervention and hailed the Centre’s assurance of swift action as a milestone in the state’s fight for justice and relief.
