The Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team is set to release on October 8, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 5. A new gameplay trailer was revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play presentation, showcasing a mix of gameplay and cinematics. The trailer primarily focused on James and Angela, giving fans a first look at the new actors and cinematic direction. The gameplay sections, while still heavily edited, showed off many of the game’s iconic monsters, such as nurses and armless figures, as well as notable locations like the hospital and prison.
One significant change from the original game is the shift from a fixed camera perspective to a more traditional third-person point of view. The trailer also highlighted changes to the combat system. James can now stun enemies with a gun before quickly switching to a melee weapon for a follow-up attack. This is a departure from the slower, inventory-based combat style of the original game.
Bloober Team has extensive experience with horror titles, having developed games such as the Layers of Fear series, Observer, Blair Witch, and The Medium. The Silent Hill 2 remake marks their first attempt at a remake and the first proper Silent Hill title since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour.
More information about the Silent Hill 2 remake is expected to be revealed during the Silent Hill Transmission event, which will air directly after the State of Play presentation.
