Looking for ways to trim those household expenses? The supermarket can be a goldmine for saving money, and hand soap is a prime target for some clever budgeting. While buying in bulk or using coupons are tried-and-true methods, a TikToker named Chloe (@chloesdealclub) has revealed a surprisingly simple way to slash your hand soap bill – and it involves something you likely already have at home!
In a video that’s garnered over 78,000 views, Chloe explains her hand soap hack: “This super easy hack is going to save you money. Now this handwash is 69p, and it’s because the bottle already has a pump in it.” But, here’s the clever twist: “This handwash on the lower shelf that doesn’t have a pump in it is only 55p. So you’re saving 14p, not a huge amount, but every little helps.”
Her solution? Simply use your existing hand soap pump with refills. “Then, when you take this one home, if you already have a hand soap just pop your pump in it.” Chloe used Aldi’s Lacura beauty range to demonstrate the price difference, a brand known for its affordable hygiene products. This hack isn’t limited to Aldi, either. At supermarkets like Tesco, you can find refill packs of hand soap that work out significantly cheaper than buying new bottles. A one-liter refill pack of Carex original handwash costs £3.30, translating to 33p per 100ml. Compare that to a 250ml bottle priced at £1.50, or 60p per 100ml.
The same principle applies at Sainsbury’s, where a refill pack of the same handwash also costs 33p per 100ml. Even better, a one-liter refill bag of their own-brand antibacterial handwash comes in at just £2.60, or 26p per 100ml.
For those who prefer a solid option, bars of soap are a good alternative as they tend to last longer than liquid handwash. Sainsbury’s offers a tea tree bar soap for 75p, which works out to 60p per 100g.
Remember, even small savings can add up over time. So next time you’re at the supermarket, consider swapping your new bottle of hand soap for a refill pack and keep your pump – your wallet will thank you!
