Indian sprinter Simran, guided by Abhay Singh, finished fourth in the women’s 100m T12 final at the Paralympics on Thursday. She clocked a time of 12.31 seconds in the sprint race.
Cuba’s Omara Durand Elias, guided by Yuniol Kindelan, dominated the race, securing gold with a comfortable time of 11.81 seconds. Ukraine’s Oksana Boturchuk, guided by Mykata Barabanov, claimed silver with a time of 12.17 seconds, while Germany’s Katrin Mueller, guided by Noel-Phillippe Fiener, took bronze with a time of 12.26 seconds.
Earlier on Thursday, Simran had secured her spot in the final after finishing second in semifinal 2 with a time of 12.33 seconds. She was edged out by Germany’s Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt in that heat. Simran, who was born prematurely with visual impairment, was ranked third overall in the semifinals.
The 24-year-old reigning world champion from New Delhi had displayed a season’s best effort of 12.17 seconds in her heats on Wednesday. The T12 category is designed for athletes who have visual impairments.
