A Singapore Airlines plane emitted white smoke upon landing at Narita Airport in Japan on Monday, prompting a temporary runway closure. The incident occurred shortly after the flight landed at the gateway to Tokyo, causing six fire engines and two ambulances to rush to the scene.
Narita’s runway B was closed from around 7:40 am local time (2240 GMT) following reports of white smoke coming from the aircraft’s left engine. However, responders found no signs of fire or injuries.
A Narita city fire official told AFP, “We received a report of white smoke rising from the left engine.” Firefighters remained at the scene for over an hour before leaving after confirming there was no fire. The plane, carrying 276 passengers and crew members, reported the smoke to the airport after landing.
An airport official told AFP, “It communicated that there was a possibility that it experienced a problem when it landed.” The incident also resulted in pieces of tyre being found on the runway.
While the incident caused some disruptions at the airport, authorities confirmed that no one was injured and the situation was resolved after a thorough investigation by firefighters. The cause of the smoke remains under investigation.
