Singapore Airlines Promotes Leslie Thng to Executive Vice President

The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has joyfully announced the elevation of Mr. Leslie Thng to the position of Executive Vice President, effective from the 1st of July 2024. Aged 50, Mr. Thng continues to hold the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Scoot, SIA’s low-cost carrier subsidiary. His reporting lines remain with SIA CEO Mr. Goh Choon Phong and the Board of Budget Aviation Holdings, which oversees Scoot’s operations.

Mr. Thng’s journey with Singapore Airlines began in 1999, initially serving as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing before assuming his current role. Notably, he led as CEO of Vistara, SIA’s joint venture with Tata Sons in India, from October 2017 to December 2021. Preceding this, he held roles as Scoot’s Chief Commercial Officer (May 2016 to October 2017) and as Chief Executive of SIA’s former regional carrier SilkAir (August 2012 to May 2016).

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines, said: “As an SIA Group veteran, Leslie has a wealth of experience from key positions in Singapore and other important markets of Singapore Airlines, as well as his leadership roles with Scoot and Vistara. His promotion bolsters our senior management team and allows him to make a deeper contribution to the future success of the SIA Group.”

Under Mr. Thng’s leadership, Scoot has undergone substantial growth, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in 2024 in terms of capacity, passenger traffic, and load factors. This achievement solidified its standing as a frontrunner in the low-cost carrier sector, leading to accolades such as the Value Airline of the Year award at the 2024 Air Transport World Airline Industry Achievement Awards and the 2023 World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline award from Skytrax. Mr. Thng played a pivotal role in Vistara’s progress, overseeing significant milestones such as the launch of international flights and the integration of Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft into its fleet. These efforts were instrumental in consolidating the airline’s reputation as India’s preferred full-service carrier.
