Single Parents Find Love Again: New Study Reveals Average Time and Challenges

A recent study sheds light on the dating journey for single parents, revealing the average time it takes to find love again after heartbreak and the challenges they face. The research, commissioned by Even, a dating app tailored for single parents, surveyed 600 mothers and fathers who had experienced heartbreak since having children.

The study found that 64% of single parents have found new partners, despite 63% initially believing they would never find love again. The average time it took for these single parents to fall in love again was 13 months. While a positive finding, the study also highlights the difficulties single parents face in navigating the dating world.

A significant 59% of participants admitted to losing confidence in themselves after a breakup, and 53% feared getting hurt again. Nearly half (40%) worried about potential friction with their children if they didn’t warm to the idea of a new person in their lives.

The study also found that 57% of single parents believe it’s harder to find love than those without children. In fact, 15% even said they felt it was more likely to win the lottery than find ‘the one’ after a breakup, due to prioritizing their children (51%). Other challenges included lack of energy (31%), lack of time (31%), childcare (18%), and custody stresses (12%).

Despite these challenges, the study reveals a hopeful shift in mindset. Participants reported feeling optimistic about their dating journey again after just seven months. Support from family and friends (27%) and a renewed sense of self-worth (26%) played key roles in this shift. Children also proved to be a source of support, with 14% saying their kids helped them get back on the dating scene, and 51% claiming their children were supportive of their dating journey.

The study concludes that while navigating the world of dating as a single parent can be challenging, it’s not impossible to find love and happiness again. The key is to be patient, embrace support from loved ones, and believe in your own worth.
