SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle Team Up for Groundbreaking Mail Collection Pilot on MRT Trains

Beginning June 25th, Stellar Lifestyle, in collaboration with Singapore Post Limited (SingPost), is launching a groundbreaking pilot project to collect mail via SMRT-operated trains. This initiative, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aims to assess the feasibility of expanding postal service access points adjacent to MRT stations. For the first time, SingPost will utilize MRT trains as a means of postal collection, supplementing their existing fleet of vehicles. The pilot seeks to evaluate the operational and environmental benefits of using MRT trains for mail collection, focusing on cost efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions.

Over a three-month period starting tomorrow, designated Mail Ambassadors will gather postal items at Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations, transporting them to the SingPost sorting center near Paya Lebar MRT station. These collections will occur daily between the off-peak hours of 11am and 2pm on the East-West Line. Each day, up to two Mail Ambassadors, easily recognizable by their SingPost uniforms, will perform the collections, using familiar MRT train cabins.

Mr. Tony Heng, President of Stellar Lifestyle, a business arm of SMRT, stated, “Aligned with SMRT’s vision of Moving People, Enhancing Lifestyles, at the heart of all of Stellar Lifestyle’s activities is a commitment to promoting a more sustainable way of living, working, and operating businesses. Thus, we are excited to partner with SingPost on this pilot that leverages the island-wide train network operated by SMRT. We remain on the lookout for new opportunities with like-minded companies to not only enrich the commuter experience but drive positive change or impact to the communities we serve.”

Mr. Shahrin Abdol Salam, Chief Executive Officer Singapore, SingPost, commented, “SingPost is heartened to deepen our partnership with Stellar Lifestyle, leveraging their expertise within the transportation ecosystem to explore solutions in facilitating urban logistics in Singapore. Furthermore, the extension of our collaboration with Stellar Lifestyle will continue to bring convenience to consumers and SMEs by strategically situating our service points along key transportation nodes across Singapore. The extensive rail network is highly accessible, allowing us to bring our services closer to the community, seamlessly integrating into their daily routines. Together, we will forge forward through innovation to better serve our customers and contribute towards a progressive Singapore.”

In March 2024, SingPost launched its inaugural standalone POPStop at Tampines MRT station, enhancing commuter convenience by facilitating easy parcel drop-offs and returns during their daily transit routines. Should this pilot prove successful, SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle intend to extend the trial to additional stations across all SMRT-operated lines. Furthermore, SingPost plans to identify potential locations for additional POPStops and service points to better serve the local communities.
