Siniakova & Townsend to Face Routliffe & Dabrowski in Wimbledon Doubles Final

Katerina Siniakova is set to compete for her third Wimbledon women’s doubles title after successfully stopping Hsieh Su-Wei’s winning streak at the tournament. Siniakova and her partner, Taylor Townsend, triumphed over the top-seeded pairing of Hsieh and Elise Mertens in a hard-fought match on Friday, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on No. 1 Court. They will now face the second-seeded duo of Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski in the final on Saturday.

Routliffe and Dabrowski, a New Zealand-Canada pair, secured their spot in the final by defeating American duo Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk with a decisive 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Hsieh, a seasoned Wimbledon champion, has won four doubles titles at the prestigious tournament, including the last three consecutive appearances. Notably, she triumphed in 2021 alongside Mertens and again last year, with Mertens playing on the opposing side in the final. The 2020 edition was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic, and Hsieh was sidelined with an injury in 2022.

Siniakova, known for her doubles prowess, previously claimed the Wimbledon title in both 2022 and 2018, partnering with fellow Czech player Barbora Krejcikova, who reached the singles final this year. Siniakova also secured her eighth major doubles title by winning this year’s French Open alongside Coco Gauff.

Townsend, in pursuit of her first Grand Slam title, previously reached the runner-up spot at the U.S. Open in 2022 and the French Open last year.

Meanwhile, Routliffe and Dabrowski achieved the 2023 U.S. Open doubles title but are aiming for their maiden Wimbledon trophy. Dabrowski, at 32 years old, is making her 10th Wimbledon appearance and finished runner-up in 2019 alongside Xu Yifan.
