China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has taken a significant step towards a greener future by outlining its low-carbon development strategy. At the Tsinghua University 2024 Forum on Carbon Neutral Economy held in Beijing, Sinopec, in collaboration with Tsinghua University, brought together leading experts and academics to discuss the path towards a low-carbon transformation. The forum focused on green energy, technological advancements, and mutually beneficial partnerships to explore the potential of green development.
Ma Yongsheng, Chairman of Sinopec, emphasized in his opening speech that fostering ecological development and building harmonious relationships between people and nature is a cornerstone of China’s modernization journey. Recognizing Sinopec’s consistent efforts, the company has been honored as a ‘China Low-Carbon Model’ for 13 consecutive years, making it the energy and chemical company with the most awards of this kind.
Highlighting the company’s commitment to green development, Ma stated, “Sinopec is vigorously implementing a green and low-carbon development strategy, formulating a carbon peak action plan. We are promoting fossil energy while expanding clean energy operations, and we are also decarbonizing all production processes.” He further emphasized the immense potential of green and low-carbon industries over the next three decades, highlighting Sinopec’s commitment to leading the charge through technological innovation and ecosystem building with its partners.
Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University, underscored the university’s critical role in connecting primary productive forces, talent resources, and innovations. He emphasized the university’s responsibility to play a more active part in implementing ‘dual carbon’ strategies. Tsinghua University aims to deepen its collaboration with all sectors by integrating talent training and education, scientific research, and transformation, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for all.
The forum also witnessed the launch of the Eco-Partnership Program for Carbon Neutrality, a joint initiative by Sinopec and Tsinghua University. This program aims to build a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral platform by fostering collaboration between universities and businesses, bridging the gap between industry and education. The program will prepare leading experts in the field of carbon neutrality, equipped with global vision, innovative spirit, and practical skills. These experts will provide technical support for policy development and promote cooperation across upstream and downstream industrial chains.
