SITA, a prominent global provider of air transport technology, has extended its partnership with Heathrow Airport for an additional five years. This strategic move aims to bolster the airport’s expansive and evolving network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity and enhanced services for passengers and businesses alike.
Since 2011, SITA has worked closely with Heathrow, strengthening its infrastructure as the airport ascended to become Europe’s busiest, catering to nearly 80 million passengers in 2023. This renewed agreement signifies a continued commitment to fortifying Heathrow’s digital framework, managing its extensive network as the airport embarks on further growth and IT system upgrades.
Under the partnership, SITA will oversee thousands of network access switches, wireless access points, and numerous analogue and internet phone lines, leveraging its extensive expertise in managing complex airport environments. The SITA on-site team at Heathrow will spearhead new projects and provide continuous support for network telecoms infrastructure, cybersecurity, radio, and operational technology. This dedicated team will support Heathrow’s internal customers, B2B commercial clients, and the airport’s broader supply chain.
This updated model also incorporates a significant expansion of commercial telecoms offerings for Heathrow’s B2B customers. SITA will deliver top-tier communication solutions to various internal clients, including airlines, ground handlers, and retailers. This comprehensive approach ensures a robust and reliable network, essential for delivering seamless operations and meeting the needs of millions of passengers and numerous businesses that rely on Heathrow every day.
