The Ministry of Education unveiled the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings on Monday, revealing the best institutions across India. In a notable achievement, six Delhi University (DU) colleges secured places among the top 10 best colleges in the country. These include Hindu College, Miranda House, St. Stephens’s College, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, Kirori Mal College, and Lady Shri Ram College for Women. The remaining top 10 positions were filled by institutions from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Continuing its dominance, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained its top spot for the ninth consecutive year in the engineering college category. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, was recognized as the best overall university. In the management category, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta are among the top five.
Among state universities, Anna University in Chennai took the top position, followed by Jadavpur University in Kolkata. For medical studies, AIIMS Delhi was declared the best institution, while IIT Roorkee emerged as the top college for architecture.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was introduced in 2015 by the Ministry of Education as a methodology for ranking higher education institutions in India. A Core Committee established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) developed the ranking methodology, defining the broad parameters for evaluating universities and institutions.
