ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In a dominant performance on the mound, Tarik Skubal struck out nine batters over six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits. His impressive outing contributed significantly to the Detroit Tigers’ 7-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
The Tigers’ offense provided ample support, with Mark Canha launching a solo homer in the first inning and Javier Báez driving in a run with an RBI single in the second. Canha added another run-scoring single in the fifth and Parker Meadows connected on a solo drive in the sixth, extending the lead to 6-0.
Tampa Bay’s lone run came from José Caballero’s homer in the eighth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Tigers’ strong pitching and timely hitting.
The Tigers’ win improved their road record to 9-3 this season, while the Rays dropped to 9-10. The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday night, with Kenta Maeda taking the mound for Detroit and Ryan Pepiot starting for Tampa Bay.
