Slovenian gastronomy has reached a new peak, as the 2024 Michelin Guide for Slovenia reveals a surge in recognition for the nation’s culinary scene. The guide features a record 63 restaurants, marking an increase of four from the previous year. This growth propels Slovenia into the ranks of Europe’s culinary powerhouses. Five new restaurants have earned the prestigious Bib Gourmand award, recognizing their exceptional value for money. Adding to Slovenia’s impressive culinary achievements, eight restaurants have been awarded the Green Star, a testament to their commitment to sustainability. This achievement solidifies Slovenia’s position as the leading European country in terms of Michelin Green Stars per capita. For the fifth consecutive year, the Michelin Guide shines a spotlight on Slovenia’s finest restaurants, reinforcing the extraordinary quality, sustainability, and diversity of its gastronomy. Hiša Franko, led by renowned chef Ana Roš, continues to shine with its three Michelin stars. Further enhancing its reputation, Hiša Franko also holds a Green Star, showcasing its dedication to sustainable practices. This dual recognition elevates Hiša Franko to an elite group of just 33 restaurants worldwide that hold both distinctions. Ana Roš is one of only eight female chefs globally to hold three Michelin stars and one of two chefs worldwide to combine this accolade with the Green Star. Another noteworthy restaurant is Milka, under the expert guidance of chef David Žefran, which retains its impressive two Michelin stars. The guide also highlights eight restaurants awarded one Michelin star, with Pavus Restaurant, led by Chef Mark Pavčnik, making a notable debut in the list. Adding to the growing number of Green Star recipients, eight restaurants have earned this prestigious award, with Galerija Okusov and Chef Marko Magajne being the latest addition. In the Bib Gourmand category, ten restaurants have been recognized for their excellence, with new entrants Faladur Restaurant & Winebar, Kodila, Lalu, Majerca Restaurant, and Triangel Restaurant joining the list. Since its inclusion in the Michelin guide in 2020, Slovenia’s culinary scene has experienced remarkable success. Initially, five restaurants were awarded one star, with one receiving two stars. By 2021, six more restaurants earned one star, and another achieved two stars. In 2022, the count of one-star restaurants expanded to nine, while one maintained its two-star rating. Slovenia reached a milestone in 2023 with its first three-star restaurant, alongside one two-starred establishment and seven others earning one star.
