Smart, the joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, has unveiled an exciting off-road concept version of its forthcoming #5 mid-size crossover at the Beijing Motor Show. This concept car provides a glimpse into the brand’s future design language and technological advancements.
The Smart #5 concept exhibits a rugged and adventurous exterior, featuring a boxy, upright silhouette akin to the #1 crossover. It boasts a host of off-road-focused elements, including front and rear skid plates, a hidden integrated winch, a folding rear step for roof access, a roof-mounted light bar, large all-terrain tires, and a roof rack.
Inside, the Concept #5 presents a spacious and modern cabin with a center console running down the middle. The cabin features three OLED displays spanning the dashboard’s width, powered by a high-performance AMD V2000 chip. Drivers can seamlessly interact with these screens through a virtual in-car assistant. Additional interior amenities include ambient lighting, a portable speaker, and a zero-gravity front passenger seat.
The Smart #5 concept is powered by an all-electric drivetrain, featuring all-wheel drive and a battery pack with a nominal capacity exceeding 100kWh. This setup allows for an impressive claimed range of over 550km according to WLTP testing. The concept also boasts an 800V electrical architecture, enabling rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
While Smart has not yet confirmed the production version of the #5 concept, it is expected to be unveiled in the second half of this year. However, the availability of the production model in Australia remains uncertain, as Smart has not been present in the local market since 2015.
