Smriti Irani Claims Congress Admits Amethi Defeat

In a bold declaration, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani has asserted that the Congress party’s decision not to field a member of the Gandhi family in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency is a clear indication of their resignation to defeat.

Irani, who is the incumbent MP from Amethi and defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, emphasized that the absence of a Gandhi family candidate in Amethi is a testament to Congress’s acknowledgment that they have already conceded the seat.

The Congress party, after a week of suspense and speculation, announced on May 3 that Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, would contest the Amethi seat.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a swipe at the Congress, alleging that Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from Raebareli instead of Amethi was a sign of his fear and desperation. Modi claimed that Gandhi was so apprehensive of losing in Amethi that he had chosen to seek refuge in a supposedly safer seat.

Gandhi is currently representing Wayanad in the Lok Sabha and is seeking re-election from the same constituency in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
