Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni’s Traditional South Indian Engagement

Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni’s engagement ceremony was a stunning display of South Indian heritage and tradition. The couple, known for keeping their relationship private, exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony held at their Hyderabad home. The celebration was a testament to their shared roots and the rich cultural tapestry of Andhra Pradesh.

Dhulipala, a vision in a pastel Manish Malhotra sari, paid homage to her Andhra Pradesh heritage. The sari, a masterpiece of craftsmanship, was crafted from Uppada silk, a textile renowned for its intricate Jamdani weaving technique. The Uppada silk, known for its delicate floral and faunal motifs and flowing silhouettes, is a labor of love, taking anywhere from 10 to 60 days to weave. For Dhulipala’s engagement, Malhotra used a medley of textiles sourced from the weaving communities of Andhra Pradesh. The sari’s golden blush hue was inspired by the Kanakaambaram, a traditional temple flower worn by Telugu women, and the Padmam (lotus), symbolizing eternity. The silhouette, inspired by the paintings of renowned Telugu artist Bapu, echoed the classic half-saree style worn by young South Indian women.

Dhulipala completed her traditional look with custom South Indian yellow gold jewelry from Manish Malhotra High Jewellery, including a layered necklace, bangles, and jhumkas. Her hair was adorned with flowers, and her makeup was soft and natural, complementing her radiant glow.

Naga Chaitanya Akkineni also celebrated his heritage through his attire. He wore a classic Pattu pancha, laalchi, and kanduva—a traditional three-piece set worn by the men of Andhra Pradesh. The ensemble, crafted in ivory brocade and muted gold tussar silk, featured exquisite antique gold dori work, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of Andhra Pradesh.

The engagement ceremony was a beautiful celebration of love, tradition, and heritage. Dhulipala and Akkineni’s choice of attire, meticulously crafted by Manish Malhotra, not only showcased their personal style but also paid tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh.
