A trip through Birmingham Airport’s duty-free shop turned into an unexpected spectacle for Birmingham Mail reporter, Kirsty Bosley. The scene: a pre-teen girl, bursting with excitement, screaming “OH MY GOSH!” at the top of her lungs as she rushed towards the beauty section. Her equally enthusiastic mother followed close behind, creating a commotion that caught Bosley’s attention.
The source of this excitement? Sol de Janeiro, a popular beauty brand that has gained immense popularity in the UK in recent years, largely due to the viral success of their ‘Bum Bum’ cream. The mother-daughter duo were not alone; a small crowd had gathered around the product testers, eager to experience the brand’s signature scents and textures.
Intrigued, Bosley decided to join the crowd and try out some of the testers herself. She was immediately drawn to the Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist, a hair and body spray priced at £24. “No sooner had I spritzed it, I understood the hype. I was OBSESSED,” she wrote. Describing the fragrance, she said it “smells exactly like you want the best holiday to smell. A salted caramel dream, with a delicious pistachio note and a sunny kind of warmth to it. It’s not overly sweet, it just smells like you’ve been on the beach all day and now you’re doused in aftersun eating Lays crisps and some chocolate you’ve never had before on a hotel balcony.”
Bosley also gave the Bum Bum cream a positive review, noting that she still smelled great upon arriving at her destination. She even observed a similar scene at Copenhagen Airport on her return journey, with a mother and daughter enthusiastically trying out the Sol de Janeiro testers there.
Back in Birmingham, Bosley attempted to purchase the Cheirosa 62 Perfume at the Bullring, only to find herself unable to even reach the Sol de Janeiro stand due to the throngs of shoppers. “I know a few places have brought of their own ‘dupes’ of the famous Bum Bum cream. Aldi had something similar recently and I got a 99p Superdrug body wash that has similar notes. Nothing will do though – I’m going to need the real deal. Next time I’m at the airport, I’m going to make like those ladies and run for it!” she exclaimed.
Bosley’s experience highlights the overwhelming popularity of Sol de Janeiro, particularly their signature scents and creams. It seems that the brand’s vacation-inspired fragrances and luxurious textures have captivated shoppers, leading to scenes of frenzy both at airports and in retail stores. Whether it’s the alluring scent of the Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist or the iconic Bum Bum cream, Sol de Janeiro appears to have become a must-have for those seeking a touch of indulgence and a reminder of warm, sunny days.
