Somerville Man Faces Indecent Assault Charges Related to Unlicensed Chiropractic Practice
A Somerville man, identified as 60-year-old Jose Mendez, has been apprehended and charged with indecent assault and other offenses. The charges stem from allegations that Mendez posed as a chiropractor and engaged in inappropriate conduct with two women seeking treatment at his residence.
According to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, Mendez is facing two counts of indecent assault and battery, one count of indecent exposure, and one count of practicing as an unlicensed chiropractor. Authorities assert that Mendez operated an unlicensed chiropractic business out of his home on Cross Street in Somerville.
The investigation revealed that Mendez allegedly inappropriately touched the victims during their treatment sessions. In one instance, he is accused of exposing himself to one of the victims. Mendez’s bail was set at $5,500 during his arraignment in Somerville District Court on April 17th. The court imposed conditions prohibiting him from contacting the victims and practicing as a chiropractor. He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 14th.
Authorities believe Mendez’s business operated through word-of-mouth and referrals. The district attorney’s office is actively investigating the extent of his unlicensed practice and requests anyone with information to contact Somerville Police.
