A Somerville, Massachusetts, man named Jose Mendez, 60, has been arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery for allegedly posing as a chiropractor and assaulting two women. According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Somerville Chief of Police Charles Femino, Mendez has been charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, indecent exposure, and operating as an unlicensed chiropractor.
Investigators allege that Mendez assaulted two women who came to his home on Cross Street in Somerville for treatment. On both occasions, Mendez inappropriately touched the victims. In one instance, he also unzipped his pants and exposed himself. Mendez’s business was reportedly operating solely through word-of-mouth and referrals within the community. Police are currently investigating the scope of his unlicensed practice.
Anyone with information about Mendez or his unlicensed chiropractic operation is urged to contact the Somerville Police at 617-625-1600 x7278. Mendez was arraigned in Somerville District Court on April 17. Bail was set at $5,500, and he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims, not abuse them, and refrain from practicing as a chiropractor. He is scheduled to return to court on May 14.
