A disturbing incident unfolded in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Monday, involving a hit-and-run accident allegedly involving Sanket Bawankule, the son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The incident sparked controversy as an Audi car, owned by Bawankule, was involved in a series of collisions, injuring two individuals riding a motorcycle.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 AM in the Ramdaspeth area. Eyewitness accounts and a 14-second video clip surfaced, depicting the Audi crashing into a car and then a bike. The vehicle reportedly carried five individuals, including Sanket Bawankule. While the driver and one passenger were apprehended, Bawankule and two others managed to escape the scene.
According to media reports, Bawankule and his friends were returning from a beer bar at the time of the incident. The Nagpur Police promptly initiated an investigation, collecting blood samples from the arrested individuals for examination to determine if alcohol was involved.
Following the accident, the occupants of one of the cars that were hit pursued the Audi and managed to stop it near Mankapur bridge. This act of citizen intervention played a crucial role in apprehending the driver and one of the passengers.
The incident has garnered significant attention due to the alleged involvement of a prominent political figure’s son. Responding to the incident, Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that he expects the law to take its course, emphasizing that regardless of the individual’s identity, justice should be served equally.
The Nagpur Police are investigating the incident further, and the driver, Arjun Hawre, is facing the possibility of arrest. The incident has raised concerns regarding road safety and the responsibility of individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.
