Sonos has recently refreshed its app for mobile devices and introduced a web app to replace its native Mac and Windows apps. While the updated app features a modernized interface and simplified navigation, it has also brought a significant change to the Music Library. Previously, the Music Library was easily accessible and searchable, allowing users to browse and play their personal digital music collections stored on computers or network-attached storage (NAS) devices. However, in the latest app update, the Music Library is no longer searchable and has been reclassified as a source, similar to line-in or TV inputs. This change has made it less convenient for users to access and manage their personal music collections. To access the Music Library in the updated app, users must select it from the ‘Your Sources’ menu. While it can still be browsed in a similar way to before, it is no longer available in the search function. Additionally, the settings for the Music Library, such as library location and indexing preferences, are currently inaccessible, which further limits user control over their personal music collections. Sonos has acknowledged this issue and stated that they are working on refining the app experience and will roll out improvements in the coming months. However, until these improvements are implemented, users who heavily rely on their personal music libraries may want to consider delaying their update to the latest Sonos app to avoid potential inconvenience.
