Sony Music Masterworks, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, has made a significant move in the live entertainment space by acquiring a majority stake in Black Sky Creative. This Los Angeles-based company is known for its expertise in creating immersive and engaging experiences for world-class brands and intellectual property.
Under the agreement, Black Sky, led by founder Jeff Delson, will become an integral part of Masterworks’ live division. The focus will be on developing scalable experiential properties across various platforms, including music, social media, children’s entertainment, film, TV, and gaming. Delson, along with his partners Lee Rosen and Shannon Ramirez, will continue to manage the company’s day-to-day operations. They will also work closely with Mark Cavell, President of Masterworks, on the creation of new and innovative projects.
Black Sky has a strong track record of delivering impressive projects. Some of their recent highlights include the Stranger Things: The Official Store, the AC/DC Official Dive Bar Takeover at the Power Trip Festival, the Olivia Rodrigo Tour Fan Experience, and the Britney Spears – The Zone immersive fan experience.
Looking ahead, Black Sky is collaborating with Moonbug to launch CoComelon Playdate, the first family entertainment center in North America based on the popular children’s show. This immersive and interactive environment, set to open this winter at the Mall of America, will cater to children aged one to seven. It will feature engaging play areas and an extensive retail store offering CoComelon merchandise.
