Sony has announced a price increase for one of its most popular PlayStation 5 accessories in the United States. The standard DualSense controller, which previously retailed for $70, will now cost $75. This represents a 7% price jump for the device.
The news comes just over a year after Sony Interactive Entertainment boasted about the strong performance of its accessories business, highlighting it as a “highly profitable” unit for the gaming division. Back in 2023, Sony Senior Vice President Eric Lempel emphasized the growing consumer demand for PS5 accessories, attributing it to record-high revenue.
It’s worth noting that Sony has released a number of other PS5 accessories in recent months, including the $60 PlayStation VR2 adapter for PC connectivity, two special edition DualSense controllers priced at $80 and $85 respectively, the $199 PlayStation Portal remote play receiver tablet, and the premium $199 DualSense Edge with customizable features.
This price increase for the standard DualSense controller arrives just before Sony’s planned announcement of a new PlayStation 5 Pro console, scheduled for September 10, 2024. While not directly confirmed, the timing of the price hike could potentially be related to the upcoming console launch and its potential impact on the overall PlayStation ecosystem.
