Sony has unveiled two new high-end 4K laser projectors, the Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) and Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES). These projectors are notable for incorporating Sony’s advanced XR Processing technology, which is already renowned for its performance in their Bravia OLED TVs. The XR Processing technology includes a range of features that enhance image quality, delivering a professional-grade cinematic experience right in your home.
Both projectors share a number of key features, including native 4K resolution, support for HDR10 and HLG formats, and a modified version of Sony’s XR Processor for Projector. This processor powers features like XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR Triluminos Pro, and XR Clear Image, all contributing to a visually stunning experience.
The XR Tone Mapping feature analyzes peak brightness levels in each video frame to optimize tone mapping, resulting in rich gradations, high brightness, and authentic colors. XR Deep Black enhances contrast by delivering deep blacks even in bright rooms, a significant improvement for projector users. XR Triluminos Pro ensures vibrant and accurate colors, while Clear Image upscales all content to 4K quality.
Gamers will appreciate the projectors’ 4K/120fps support, ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), and a 12ms input lag time, making them ideal for fast-paced gaming. With two HDMI 2.1 inputs, connecting a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or PC is a breeze.
Setting up these projectors is also made easy with features like auto keystone correction and lens shift, simplifying the process of aligning the image with your screen.
The main difference between the two models lies in their brightness ratings. The Bravia 8 offers a powerful 2,700 lumens, while the Bravia 9 pushes things even further with 3,400 lumens. The Bravia 9 is the only projector in the pair to feature Sony’s Live Color Enhancer, which is designed for brighter rooms. This feature preserves vibrant and accurate colors without sacrificing saturation.

The Sony Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) is available for $16,000, while the Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES) is priced at $32,000. They are now available for order directly from Sony Electronics and through online retailers.
