South Africa has unveiled its squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place from October 3 to 20. Leading the team into the tournament will be Laura Wolvaardt, who assumes the captaincy role for the first time in an ICC event. The 25-year-old takes the reins from Sune Luus, who remains a crucial part of the squad and led South Africa to the final of the T20 World Cup last year on home soil.
The squad boasts a blend of experienced players and new faces. Alongside Wolvaardt and Luus, seasoned campaigners such as Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, Nadine De Klerk, Tazmin Brits, Ayabonga Khaka, and Nonkululeko Mlaba are ready to contribute. South Africa has largely retained the core of the team that reached the final last year, with the addition of several promising players. Eliz-Mari Marx, Tumi Sekhukhune, Mieke De Ridder, and uncapped player Seshnie Naidu have earned their place in the squad.
This South African Women’s T20 World Cup squad will also be in action in a three-match T20I series against Pakistan, scheduled from September 16-20.
