South Africa started their ODI series against Ireland with a commanding victory, defeating the Irish side by 139 runs in the first match. The Proteas, electing to bat first after winning the toss, amassed a formidable total of 271 for nine wickets.
Opening batsman Ryan Rickelton played a crucial role in setting up the victory, smashing 91 runs off 102 deliveries, including three sixes and seven fours. His innings provided a solid foundation for the South African innings. Tristan Stubbs further strengthened their position with a quickfire 79 runs, showcasing his aggressive batting style.
In reply, Ireland’s batting struggled to cope with the South African bowling attack and were bowled out for a meager 132 runs in 31.5 overs. George Dockrell top-scored for Ireland with a score of 21 runs, while Mark Adair, continuing his impressive form from the recent T20 series, picked up four wickets for 50 runs in his 10 overs. Adair’s performance followed his exceptional four-wicket haul in the second T20 against South Africa, where Ireland secured their first-ever T20 victory against the Proteas.
This ODI series, just like the T20 series, is taking place in Abu Dhabi. The next match in the series is scheduled for Friday.
