South African Airways (SAA) is set to make travel between Africa and Australia even more convenient by expanding its non-stop flights between Perth and Johannesburg. Currently operating three weekly flights, SAA will increase the frequency to four times a week starting December 8, 2024, and continuing until January 6, 2025. Then, starting January 7, 2025, the airline will further boost connectivity with five weekly flights. This expansion is driven by the growing demand for travel between these two destinations.
The increased flight frequency will mean more options for travelers. Starting the week of December 7th, flight SA0281 will depart Perth (PER) at 11:55 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Johannesburg (JNB) at 5:10 p.m. the following day. The return flights, SA0280, will depart Johannesburg at 8:35 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, landing in Perth at 12:10 p.m. the next day. From January 7th onwards, an additional flight will be added on Tuesdays, providing even greater flexibility for travelers.
SAA resumed its direct service between Australia and South Africa in April 2024, marking it as the second international route the airline reintroduced after the pandemic. This latest expansion reflects the airline’s commitment to meeting the needs of its passengers and fostering stronger connections between Australia and Africa.
