South African Police Bust Secret Military Camp, Arrest 95 Libyan Nationals

South African authorities have made a significant arrest, apprehending 95 Libyan nationals suspected of receiving military training at a secret camp in the country’s north. The camp, located on a farm in White River, Mpumalanga province, approximately 360 kilometers northeast of Johannesburg, was raided by police. National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe revealed on social media platform X that the Libyans initially claimed to be in South Africa on study visas to train as security guards. However, police investigations uncovered evidence suggesting they received military training. Newzroom Afrika TV news channel aired images of the arrest site, showcasing a military-style camp with green tents. Police initiated the operation to apprehend the Libyans and dismantle the camp two days prior to the arrests. The site, according to police, had been transformed into an illegal military training base. Mpumalanga’s acting provincial commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, issued a statement confirming that the 95 individuals in custody are Libyan nationals and are currently undergoing questioning by relevant authorities.
