A recent survey of 4,000 Indian tourists has revealed the growing popularity of Southeast Asia as a destination for short-haul vacations. This shift in travel preferences is primarily attributed to the relaxed visa norms in Southeast Asian countries, which make it easier for Indians to visit. Countries like Malaysia and Indonesia have implemented visa-on-arrival policies, further contributing to the region’s appeal for Indian tourists.
The survey also highlighted the importance of visa policies in shaping travel decisions. The introduction of a five-year multiple-entry visa for Dubai has significantly enhanced the ease of travel between India and the Gulf region. This has made Dubai a popular destination for short trips, particularly for Indian travelers seeking convenient and affordable visa options.
While Europe and the United States of America remain top choices for longer-duration vacations, Southeast Asia has emerged as a preferred destination for shorter trips, typically lasting 5-7 days. The diverse attractions, cultural experiences, and affordable travel options available in Southeast Asian countries have made it an attractive proposition for Indian tourists.
