Southern Company Gas Welcomes Myra Bierria as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer

Atlanta, GA – October 24, 2024 – Southern Company Gas has announced the appointment of Myra Bierria as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, effective October 26th. This significant appointment strengthens Southern Company Gas’s leadership team, bringing in a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the energy sector and a proven track record of success.

Bierria will report directly to James Y. (Jim) Kerr II, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Company Gas. As Chief of Staff, she will oversee the Corporate Communications, Corporate Impact, and Facilities organizations, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s strategic direction.

Bierria’s impressive career spans over two decades, demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership and impactful contributions across diverse sectors. She currently serves as Vice President and Corporate Secretary for Southern Company, a role she held previously at Southern Company Gas (formerly AGL Resources) after joining the company in 2002 as Corporate Governance and Securities Counsel.

Throughout her tenure, Bierria has provided strategic counsel to senior management and the board of directors on critical matters such as corporate governance, securities law compliance, and other corporate affairs. Her commitment to community engagement is evident in her service as an officer of the AGL Resources Private Foundation for over 14 years.

Prior to joining Southern Company Gas, Bierria honed her legal skills as an associate attorney at a prominent New York law firm, specializing in securities offerings, venture capital transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. Her experience extends to serving as a staff attorney for FedEx Corporation, further diversifying her professional background.

Bierria’s dedication to excellence is reflected in her numerous achievements and recognitions. She was elected as a fellow of the American College of Governance Counsel in 2023, and is a current fellow of the International Women’s Forum (2023-2024). Her leadership contributions extend beyond the corporate realm, as she has held leadership positions on the boards of various professional and local nonprofit organizations.

Bierria’s impressive academic credentials include a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She is admitted to the New York bar.
