Southwest Airlines is expanding its service to Mexico, recognizing the surging demand for spring break getaways. Starting March 8, 2025, the airline will launch a new weekly Saturday flight from Nashville, Tennessee to San José del Cabo (Los Cabos), a popular spring break destination renowned for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife. This new route complements Southwest’s existing nonstop service to Cancun, another favorite among spring breakers.
Simultaneously, Southwest will debut a Saturday flight connecting Sacramento, California with Puerto Vallarta, a coastal city celebrated for its stunning bay and rich cultural attractions.
Southwest stands out from the competition with its customer-centric policies, offering free checked bags and no change fees. This gives travelers the flexibility to adjust their plans without incurring additional costs. Travelers can book flights on these new routes through April 7, 2025, aligning perfectly with spring break schedules.
According to Allianz Partners, who analyzed over 3.4 million spring break flight itineraries, Mexico was the top international destination for U.S. travelers in 2024. Cancun topped the list, followed by San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos) and Puerto Vallarta.
In terms of air travel to Cancun, American Airlines and United Airlines dominate the market with over 100 weekly flights each. Southwest, however, is a strong contender. Dallas emerges as the top U.S. city for seats to Cancun, offering 34,332 seats per month and the highest number of operations with 186 flights. This robust connectivity highlights Dallas’s crucial role in facilitating travel to Mexico’s most sought-after destinations.
