Sacramento International Airport to Offer Nonstop Flights to Kansas City
Southwest Airlines has announced the launch of a new nonstop flight service connecting Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and Kansas City International Airport (MCI). The flights are scheduled to commence on October 6, 2024, offering a convenient and direct connection between the two cities.
These flights will operate four times a week, departing from Sacramento on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 12:20 p.m. Prior to this announcement, there were no direct flight options available between Sacramento and Kansas City, with the only other direct connection to Missouri being a flight to St. Louis, also operated by Southwest Airlines.
The launch of these flights is part of a broader effort to expand flight services at the Sacramento International Airport. In April, the airport announced new nonstop routes to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Ontario International Airport in California, both operated by Frontier Airlines. The Dallas-Fort Worth flights are expected to begin in June, while the Ontario flights are scheduled to start in July.
The Kansas City International Airport has also undergone recent enhancements, including the inauguration of a new terminal in February 2023. This terminal features 40 gates with the potential for expansion to 50 gates in the future.
The introduction of these nonstop flights to Kansas City is expected to enhance connectivity and travel options for residents and visitors of the Sacramento region.
