The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh is heating up as the 2027 assembly elections approach, with leaders from different parties engaging in a war of words. Recently, Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Mehboob Ali has found himself at the center of controversy after allegedly making inflammatory remarks against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a public gathering in Bijnor.
An FIR has been registered against Ali at the Kotwali City police station, accusing him of promoting enmity and hatred between Hindus and Muslims on religious grounds. According to videos shared by BJP leaders, Ali is seen stating that the BJP’s rule in Uttar Pradesh will end due to the increasing Muslim population.
Ali’s statements sparked outrage among BJP leaders, who swiftly condemned his remarks. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to social media, highlighting Ali’s alleged comments linking the BJP’s rule to the Muslim population growth. He also pointed to other instances of alleged divisive remarks by Samajwadi Party leaders, including party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, BJP’s Andhra Pradesh vice-president, echoed these sentiments, labeling Ali’s statements as reflecting an anti-Hindu stance within the SP. He further pointed out the party’s alleged tolerance of such divisive remarks despite India’s predominantly Hindu population.
These accusations come as Uttar Pradesh prepares for the upcoming assembly elections in 2027. The current political climate is charged with tension and accusations, with leaders on both sides of the political spectrum vying for power. The controversy surrounding Mehboob Ali’s alleged speech further intensifies the political landscape and is likely to fuel discussions and debates leading up to the elections.
