Space Mountain is a popular space-themed attraction available at multiple Disney Parks. A film based on the indoor roller coaster ride has been in development at Disney for some time.
As the Space Mountain attraction doesn’t have a specific narrative or important characters, it has given screenwriters freedom to be creative with it. In October 2020, a new family-friendly version of the project officially went into development, and Joby Harold joined the production as a writer and producer.
It was revealed in April 2024 that Appelbaum And Andre Nemec (Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop) had become involved with the Space Mountain Movie as screenwriters.
Given how things stand now, it’s unlikely that the Space Mountain Movie will go into production this year. A film like this will also require a lengthy post-production. So, if the filming begins in 2025, the Space Mountain Movie can premiere in 2026 at the earliest.
The Space Mountain Movie will likely be a massive tentpole project for Disney similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
