Spain Loses Striker Nico Williams for Nations League Matches

Spain’s upcoming Nations League campaign will be without one of its brightest young stars. Striker Nico Williams, who played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, has been ruled out of the matches against Denmark and Serbia due to an injury sustained while playing for Athletic Bilbao.

Williams, who was recently named Man of the Match for his goal in Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final, reported for training camp with the national team in Las Rozas, near Madrid. However, after discussions between the medical staff of Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team, the decision was made to release Williams from the squad.

In his absence, Real Sociedad winger Sergio Gomez, who was part of the Olympic gold medal winning team, has been called up as a replacement.

The absence of Williams, who, along with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, is considered a key part of Spain’s future, is a significant blow for the team. However, with Gomez stepping in, Spain will be hoping to continue their strong form in the Nations League. The team will face Denmark in Murcia on October 12th and Serbia in Cordoba on October 15th.
