Williams, who was recently named Man of the Match for his goal in Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final, reported for training camp with the national team in Las Rozas, near Madrid. However, after discussions between the medical staff of Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team, the decision was made to release Williams from the squad.
In his absence, Real Sociedad winger Sergio Gomez, who was part of the Olympic gold medal winning team, has been called up as a replacement.
The absence of Williams, who, along with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, is considered a key part of Spain’s future, is a significant blow for the team.
