Spain’s Olympic Football Team Excludes Euro Stars Yamal, Williams, and Pedri

Spain’s Olympic football team will be missing three key players from their Euro Championship squad: Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and Pedri. Despite being young enough to compete in the Paris Games, the trio will be taking a break after the European Championship concludes.

While the Olympic tournament allows for under-23 squads with three over-age additions, Spain’s coaching staff has opted to give Yamal, Williams, and Pedri well-deserved rest.

This decision opens the door for other players, including Barcelona’s teenage defender Pau Cubarsí. Cubarsí, who did not make the Euro squad, has earned a spot on the Olympic team.

The over-age players selected by Olympic coach Santi Denia are Sergio Gómez (Manchester City), Abel Ruiz (Sporting Braga), and Juan Miranda (Real Betis). These experienced players will bring valuable leadership and expertise to the squad.

With a 22-player roster finalized, Spain will begin their Olympic journey with a training camp on July 1st. Their first match is scheduled for July 24th against Uzbekistan in Group C. They will then face the Dominican Republic and Egypt in subsequent group stage matches.

The absence of Yamal, Williams, and Pedri will be felt, but the team remains determined to make a strong showing at the Paris Games. With a blend of young talent and veteran experience, Spain will look to compete for gold.
