The recent Splitgate 2 announcement revealed the addition of faction-based gameplay, and now a new trailer provides a detailed look at these factions and their unique abilities.
The first faction, Aeros, is designed for players who prefer a fast-paced, aggressive playstyle. Their skillset revolves around rapid movement and quick reload times. The Rush ability grants a burst of speed, allowing players to quickly drop a portal, engage in combat, and escape before being detected.
Meridian, on the other hand, caters to support players and healers. They offer two distinct mechanics: Hypersight, which provides a closer look at enemies, including their stats, and Time Dome, which accelerates reload speed and movement while slowing down opponents within its area.
Sabrask, the third faction, takes a more traditional approach with fewer speed- or time-based abilities. They possess a Smart Wall, a shield that can be used defensively during combat, but also allows for projectiles like grenades to pass through. This faction leans towards offensive control, offering a tank-like role.
Splitgate 2 also introduces sliding as a new movement mechanic, further enriching the combat experience. While these new elements will significantly impact gameplay, the series’ signature portal-based combat remains central to the experience.
Despite the focus on factions, the trailer showcased fewer instances of players utilizing portals for elaborate maneuvers. The core mechanics of the game remain intact, but the introduction of factions adds a new layer of strategic depth and tactical decision-making.
Splitgate 2 is set to be free-to-play and will launch sometime next year. The first Splitgate game is still available, but its future remains uncertain as 1047 Games focuses its resources on the upcoming sequel. It’s still unclear if the original game will be taken offline when Splitgate 2 launches.
