Get ready to jump back into the portal-powered chaos of Splitgate, as 1047 Games has announced a sequel, Splitgate 2, set to launch in 2025. The original Splitgate, a surprise hit in 2021, captivated players with its unique blend of Halo-inspired first-person shooting and portal mechanics. This sequel promises a completely revamped experience, rebuilt from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5 to deliver a truly AAA first-person shooter experience.
Splitgate 2 introduces a new faction-based gameplay system, adding a layer of strategic depth to the game. Players will choose from three factions: Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. Aeros excels in speed and agility, allowing players to dash and soar through the battlefield with a jetpack. Meridian manipulates time, wielding stasis fields to freeze enemies in their tracks. Sabrask, the powerhouse of the group, specializes in brute force and weaponry. These factions can be combined in 4v4 matches, encouraging teamwork and strategic planning to outwit opponents.
While the original Splitgate was developed by a small team in a dorm room, Splitgate 2 benefits from a significant upgrade in resources and talent. With the support of $100 million in investor funding, the team has assembled a group of industry veterans to ensure the game reaches its full potential. “The original Splitgate’s development was ambitious but scrappy,” said 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx in a press release. “This time around, Splitgate 2 has been designed from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 to deliver the AAA first-person shooter experience our fans deserve, with the series’ signature action completely overhauled by an all-star team composed of the most talented individuals in the industry.”
Splitgate 2 is poised to be a significant evolution from its predecessor, offering a more polished and expansive experience. While prior knowledge of the original game isn’t required, fans can expect to see familiar elements woven into the new gameplay. The sequel is slated to release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the 2025 launch.
