Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly held talks with West Ham United amid speculation linking him with the Liverpool job.
Amorim, 39, has been one of Europe’s most in-demand managers in recent seasons, leading Sporting to the verge of their second Primeira Liga title in four full seasons since his appointment.
However, despite his impressive record, Amorim has repeatedly stated that he is focused on Sporting and would not consider other job offers. Earlier this month, he vowed to the media: “This is the last time I will talk about my future. There was no interview, much less of an agreement.”
Despite these comments, Amorim’s recent trip to London has fueled speculation that he may be considering a move to the Premier League. According to the Mirror, Amorim met with West Ham officials during his six-hour visit to the English capital.
West Ham are reportedly weighing up their options ahead of David Moyes’ potential departure this summer, and Amorim is believed to be a leading candidate to replace the Scot.
Amorim’s previous comments suggested that he was focused on Sporting, but the meeting with West Ham indicates that he may be open to a move to the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether West Ham can convince Amorim to leave Sporting, but the Hammers are reportedly determined to steal a march on Liverpool and secure his services.
