Indian Table Tennis player Sreeja Akula will miss the upcoming season of the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) due to an injury. Akula announced on Monday that she has been diagnosed with a stress fracture and will need to rest for six weeks. This unfortunately means she cannot participate in the 2024 UTT season. Akula recently became the first Indian to win a singles title at the WTT Contender level, claiming victory at the WTT Contender Lagos. She also impressed at the 2024 Olympic Games, reaching the pre-quarterfinal of the women’s singles and the quarterfinals of the women’s team in Paris. Her impressive achievements include a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and two gold medals at the 2019 South Asian Games. Akula, who was drafted to play for the Jaipur Patriots, will be replaced by U19 Youth National Champion and UTT debutant Nithyashree Mani. The Jaipur Patriots will be hoping Mani can replicate Akula’s success on the court.
