Daljit Singh Chawdhary, the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), has taken on the additional responsibility of leading the Border Security Force (BSF). This announcement was made on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, with a press release stating that Chawdhary assumed the additional charge as Director General of the BSF, the world’s largest border guarding force.
Chawdhary, a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Police Service (Uttar Pradesh cadre), has a distinguished career spanning 34 years. He previously assumed the charge of DG SSB on January 23, 2024. Throughout his service, he has held various key positions in Uttar Pradesh and has also served on Central Deputation since 2017. These roles include serving as ADG in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and as SDG in the Central Reserve Police Force.
Known for his expertise, Chawdhary is a renowned marksman and qualified skydiver. His dedication and accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards, including 4 police medals for Gallantry, the police medal for meritorious Service, the President’s police medal for distinguished service and the Ati Utkrisht seva medal.
