St. Joseph of Metuchen has parted ways with basketball coach Jan Cocozziello after five seasons. The decision was announced in a press release Monday afternoon, with athletic director Bill Tracy thanking Cocozziello for his contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Cocozziello, who compiled an 88-40 record during his tenure, said he had no immediate plans to pursue another coaching position but would not rule out a return at some point. He is currently the head golf coach at Union, where he has also worked as a physical education instructor for the past four years.
Prior to St. Joseph, Cocozziello was an assistant coach at Watchung Hills and Westfield. He began his coaching career as an assistant at St. Joseph under Mike Thompson for two seasons before being appointed head coach in 2019.
While Cocozziello’s teams did not win a GMCT championship or South, Non-Public A title during his five seasons, he did guide the Falcons to the South A final in 2023, where they lost to Union Catholic.
Cocozziello said he was grateful for the opportunity to coach at St. Joseph and that he would cherish the relationships he built with his players and colleagues.
St. Joseph has announced that a search for a new head basketball coach will begin immediately.
