Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has vehemently refuted claims made by opposition parties suggesting an alliance between the DMK and the BJP. While addressing a marriage function in Chennai, Stalin highlighted Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s respectful gesture at the commemorative coin release ceremony marking the late DMK leader M Karunanidhi’s centenary birth anniversary.
Stalin emphasized that Singh’s visit to the Kalaignar memorial and his subsequent tribute, which included a standing ovation for Karunanidhi, were deeply moving. He described Singh’s speech as a powerful tribute to Karunanidhi, surpassing even the praise offered by alliance partners and DMK members.
However, Stalin quickly addressed rumors of a potential DMK-BJP alliance, labeling them as mere media speculation. He emphasized that the DMK is under no obligation to form a secret alliance with the BJP, reiterating the party’s commitment to ideology and principle.
Drawing on the words of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Stalin highlighted that the DMK’s stance on alliances is based solely on ideology. He cited Gandhi’s praise for Karunanidhi’s political decisions, emphasizing that support or opposition is determined by ideological alignment rather than political opportunism.
In a further response to criticism from the AIADMK, Stalin defended the DMK’s stance, pointing out that the party has consistently condemned the Union government during its district secretaries’ meetings. He criticized AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s accusations, labeling them as attempts to discredit the DMK for its principled stance.
Stalin also refuted Palaniswami’s criticism regarding the absence of Congress MP and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi at the coin release ceremony. He pointed out the AIADMK’s lack of respect for their own leader, Jayalalithaa, by not holding a single condolence meeting for her despite their constant displays of affection. He argued that this hypocrisy disqualifies the AIADMK from criticizing the DMK’s celebration of Karunanidhi’s legacy.
Stalin concluded his remarks by emphasizing the DMK’s commitment to its principles, rooted in the ideologies of C N Annadurai and M Karunanidhi. He assured the public that the DMK will respect everyone but never compromise its principles or its right to stand up for what it believes in.
